SAD DROWNING, ACCIDENT*

AUCKLAND, last night. A- sad drowning accident occurred near Motutapu yesterday afternoon. Four young men Leslie Morrison (SO)', Thomas Kyan (21), Ernest Ryan (20),' brothers, and Arthur Tupp (20)—after visiting a small island, started to pull out to their yacht, 20 yards from the land. Tho dingey, swamped. ,The men were in oilskins, which greatly, impedM their swimming. The two Ryans reached the island in safety, tjiiilst Tupp clung to the dingey. Morrison swam a few yards to the shore, and then iturned and struck out for the dingey His strength failed, and he .was drowned. Tupp managed to get litre dingey, to the shore,. At the Costley Home enquiry, Downey, cook for seven years at the institution, testified to the good management of Moss and the pleasant relations between the manager and inmates. Judge Edwards, in his reply, said the sudden retirement of Judge Oonolly was cause for regret. All would be pleased to know that his health was now restored. Judge Conolly had arrived at a great age, and had done much hard work, and was fully entitled to a .period of leisure, He would carry with him the love of all who had come n contact with him thsougliout the colony.
