By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 9.58 p m., Nov. 13. Melbourne, Nov. 13. Tho weather was fine. There was an excellent wicket, and the attendance was fair. Arnold, Brauud, and Liiloy stand out. Laver won the toss, and the home team going to the wickets were in trouble, but luckily there was found a sting in its tail.
The first wicket fell for nil, McAlister, who opened with Bruce, playing Hirst's first ball on. Bruce went with the total at 10.
Trott and Armstrong carried tho total to 33, but the scoring was very slow, the first 25 runs taking 45 minutes. Trott was smartly stumped off Rhodes. Ellis was content with a single. Laver joined Armstrong, and a good stand resulted in a partnership which, by steady play, raised tho score to 81 before Rhodes found Armstrong timbers. Horan arrived only to see Laver clean bowled by Fielder. Tuckwell made a short stay, and Collins a still shorter, the last three wickets adding only three runs. Eight for 84. The stand of the day was then made by Horan and Monfries. Both, woll set, handled the bowling confidently and displayed excellent form.
Rhodes took tho bowling honors, his five wickets costing only 26. Fielder also proved very effective. The fielding was good, and an improvement on that in the match at Adelaide. The scores were :
