BARQUE WRECKED
.'(Per Pre«s Aseociation.) WELLINGTON, last night. The steamer Itahu, from Napier, reports that a barque is ashore with all sails set and tho hull partly submerged, about a mile this side of Capo Palliser. Tho Kahu whistled, but there was no sign of life, and it is supposed the crew got ashore. The Kahu came to Wellington to report. The wrecked vcssol is supposed to bo the barque Benavon, bound from Dunedin to Wellington, and she would bo driven ashore by the southerly breeze.
The Government steamer Hinemoa wil probably proceed to the scene this after, noon.
The captain of tho Kahu states that the vessel asboro at Palliser Bay is on the rooks close to the shore, and apparently sailed straight on during thick weather in the night. From her position the crew should have had little difficulty in getting ashore. There is no chance of getting the vessel off. The Hinemoa left for the wreck this afternoon.
