LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night. The. Council met at 2.30. Tho Fisheries Encouragement and Fisheries Conservation Bills passed their final stages. The Council met at 7.30. After a brief debate the Naval Defence Bill was put through all its stagos amidst applause.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Mr Seddon aunounced to the House the Bills ic is proposed to proceed with this session. Ho said tho Banking Bill and the preferential tariff proposals would he brought down shortly. Tile former would provide for the renewal of the colony’s guarantee to tho Bank of New Zealand, and the latter would be on tho same lines as that of Canada, With regard to the Licensing Bill, he said the House itself must decide ns to the retention of tho no-license no-liquor clauso clause. Ho did not intend to press clause 10 (submitting to the electors tho question whether the licensing poll should bo taken every three or six years), or clause 14 (proposing an alteration in the constitution of Licensing Committees), or clauses 36 and 37 (dealing with the King Country).

The House rose at 5.30. The House resumed at 7.30. Tho Patriotic Funds Bill passed its final stages. Tho Admiralty House Repoal Bill was read a second time. The Orchard and Garden Peßts Bill and Government Valuation of Land Amendment Bill passed the final stages.
