FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION.
The annual competition of the Gisborne Fire Brigade was held yosterday morning at tho Shod. The attendance was not so large as in previous years, owing to the wot woathcr and counter attractions. The times for the various ovents wore well up to tho usual standard, considering that there were a number of new men in the team events. Wallace and the old veteran Wildish still maintain their reputation in the manipulation of fire appliances ; while amongst tho new men J. Skeet, with a little more practice, is a possible first rater. On tho whole the events were conducted in a most systematic manner, under the supervision of His Worship the Mayor. Tho following were the officers : Superintendent Townley, referee ; Messrs T. Morrison and W. Mitchell, judges ; Messrs M. Morgan und J. McLoughlin, examiners ; Messrs R. Seymour and E. 11. Pavitf, timekeepers ; Mr J. Little, starter ; Mr J. H. Ormond, field secretary. Prizes were kindly donated by the following business people: Miss Hyett, Messrs J. Townley. Jones and Gaudin (Times), Bushnell, W. Good, H. It. Smith, Hood, W. Pettie, Williams and Kettle, W. O’Meara, Primrose and Leslie, C. F. Lewis, Garrett, J. McKeo, Macky, Logan and Co. (Auckland), Tanner Bros., Seymour, McLcrnon, Rosie, Adair Bros., Eure and Ambridge, and T. Morrison. For tho aggregate points throughout Wallace won with 16 points, Wildish being second with 14 points.
