SUPPOSED BROWNING CASE.

A’ young man named Appleton, employed in Mardon’s flaxmill, nas been missing since Saturday. It js fearpd he attempted to cross the back channel of the river to reach the new bridge, but must have been carried to sea.
A SERIOUS CHARGE. Two young men, R. Moore and T. George (a Maori) were arrested yesterday, op a charge of assault fnd attempted rape oil a mapried woman LICENSING RILE. A petition is in circulation,- to be presented to the member for the district, urging the Government to pass the new Licensing Bill,
