GISBORNE DEFENCE CADETS.

The Gisborne Defence Cadets fired a matoh to decide the championship of the corps on the Kaiti range yesterday morning, commencing at 5 o'clock. As showing the interest taken in tho shooting competitions, 25 lads turned up on the raDge at the appointed time. In spite of the latter part of the match being fired in a “ drizzle ” some fair scores wero put up. The conditions of the match were seven shots and two optional (fighters at 300 and 500, Government targets, any positipn; Ist prize company belt and medal, 2nd ss, 3rd 2s 6d. The best range scores were : At 300, Bugler Graham 24 ; at 500, Lieut. Doyle 24—out of a possible 28. Bugler Graham's win was a most popular one, he being a great favorite with his comrades as well as the youngest member of the corps. Captain Kretschmar also fired, making 49, only beating the winner by 2 points, The following are the ten highest spores:
