WHATATUTTU NOTES.

.(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Shearing is at its height just now, and the bashfelling just finishing. There are four new sheds this year —Mr W. Cooper’s, Mr Malcolm Campbell’s, Measts Tullock Bros’,, and Mr Hegarty’s. It shows the district is going ahead, because a few years ago all those places were standing bush.

We will soon have a township here. I hear that Messrs Richards and Hawkins are thinking of building a large store, the present building being far too small. Mr Taylor is also building a new storeroom. Our coachman, Mr J. Cassidy, is having a iarge stable built, also a dweliiDg-house of four rooms. It is to be hoped that he gets the mail contract for the coming year. He is the right man in the right place. We could not get a more reliable or obliging man if we hunted all Poverty Bay. We have hopes of getting a school started by next February. A stroDg committee are working hard for it. Inspector Hill reported favorably of the place. The country is looking fine just now, grass growing everywhere. A gentleman who has boon visiting this district said he had not seen hotter land in New Zealand.

A number of young poople are looking forward to the opening of the To Karaka Hall on the 9th inat. Mr J. Cassidy is running a coach down in tho evening and returning after tho dance. Mr W. Evans has a lino now waggon (built by Mr J. Ormond) to run up the Mangatu.
