CRICKET.
UNITED Y. COMMON, SHELTON AND CO.
Tho first match of the season, under the auspices of tbe Poverty Bay Cricket Association, took place on the Recreation ground yesterday, when the above clubs met. The weather was perfect, and a large crowd of spectators witnessed tho game, which was keenly contested throughout. Tho C.S. and Co.’s skipper, G, 11. Pasley, won the toss, and sent United to the field. W. J. Barlow batted nicely for 12, ani was ably assisted by Bayly, Hall, Jeffreys, and Roderick. Tbe innings closed for 53. United commoncod well, scoring 12 runs for the first ; but the others failed to get going, and the innings closed 12 runs behind. W. Gibson made 16 in his usual style, and was well caught by Barlow at point. H, Gibson (6) and Hay also shaped well. The following are the scores : Common, Shelton and Co.
