WELLINGTON NEWS.
Per Press Association. Wellington, last night. At an inquest concerning the death of J. Ernest Aplin, a fireman, who met his death by being run over by a locomotive yesterday at the Manawatu Railway Com pany’s yards, it was mentioned that it was the first fatality that had occurred to an employee of the company since tho line was opened eighteen years ago. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
A man named George Eden was to-day fined £lO for falsely representing himself to be a qualified medical practitioner. He obtained a living by vending patent medicines.
There wore delegates from all parts of the colony at the 21st annual conference. The Rev. A. North of Ponsonby, Rev. W. Hay of Dunedin, and Dev, E. G. Buckingham were welcomed to ministerial membership. The conference passed a resolution strongly protesting against the Licensing Bill now before Parliament.
