RIVER IMPROVEMENT.
(To the Editor Gi«borne Times.) Sir, I think your correspondent, “ AntiDam," should disclose bis name before finding fault with any suggestion for improving the present state of the river. Hesay3, “Mr Joyce’s is no new scheme.” Well, as far as Mr Joyce is concerned, a portion of it is not new to him, for many years ago, when a member of the Harbor Board, ho introduced at the Board’s meeting the subject of constructing a flood-gate at tho junction of the two rivers, which would assist tho-river improvement, but tho chairman strongly opposed it as being too expensive. I think “ Anti-Dam” will find tho other portions of Mr Joyce’s schemes are original, the opening of a gap in tho breakwater pier, and altering tho course of the Waikanae, I cannot say if r Anti-Dam ” is a resident, or ratepayer. One thing I do think, if be has the welfare of Gisborne at heart ho should not be as- I bamed to disclose his name, for ho only finds faults, suggests nothing, and hides I his name.—l am, etc., E. P.
