TO-DAY’S RACES.
NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS.
(By “ Early Bird.”)
The meeting will be brought to a conclusion to-day, . and with the excellent acceptances that have been received a good day’s sport should result. Following are the acceptances:— Second Welter Handicap, 1 mile. Ontario ... 10 0 Lady Eeay 8 7 Vivacity ... 9 8 Woodfield ... S 7 Morpeth ... 9 7 Borax ... S 7 Bruiser ... 8 9 Sls’pingßeaut \ 8 7 Bullfinch ... 8 S
Ontario meats Vivacity on nearly a stone better terms than they mot yesterday, and this should bring them much closer together when tho whips are out this afternoon. On the other hand Lady Reay has been dropped from 9.10 to 8.7. Morpeth aud Woodfield are two newcomers in the Weiter, and one or the other may have something to say in the issue. My fancy is— Lady Reay or Ontario ... 1 Morpeth 2 Woodfield 3 Second Hurdles, If- miles.
st lb st lb Nance O'Neil 11 9 The Miner... 9 8 Mangamahaki 913 Wilson ... 9 0 They should finish— Nance O’Neil ... ... 1 Mangamahaki 2 Second County Stakes, one mile.
Croupier ... 9 9 Argyll ... 7 5 Te Rahui ... 711 Lady Reay 7 4 Vivacity ... 7 11 Sariila ... 610 Morpeth ... 7 9 Croupier can hardly concede Morpeth two stone, and the Crackshot gelding won his races in such good style yesterday that I am prepared to stand by him to day. Vivacity or tho light-weight Sariila may upset matters. Morpeth ... ... ... 1 Croupier 2 Vivacity g Makaraka Handicap, one mile. Taura ... 9 3 Oracle ... S 2 A.B.N. ... 8 5 Craftsman... 6 10 Soultina ... 8 5
Tanra meets Oracle on ten pounds worse terms, and the distance is a quarter of a mile less than yesterday, This should suit tho former. A.B.N. and Soultina have also to be reckoned with, although it is doubtful whether the daughter of Soult will last the distanoe. The numbers may go up as follows : Taura 1 Soultina 2 Oracle 3 Second Flat Hack, 6 furlongs. Tntungarohu 813 Woodfield ... 612 Vivacity ... 8 9 First F00t... 6 9 Morpeth ... 8 9 Cracknell ... G 9 To Rahui ... 8 6 Borax ... 6 7 Romany Girl 7 1 Ladylike ... 6 7 Faro ... 612 Sle’pingßeauty6 7 If Morpeth is reserved for this event ho should about win, but with a race out of him the event should furnish a good struggle among tho four top weights. They may finish in the following order— Tutungarehu 1 Vivacity ... ... ... 2 Morpeth ... 3 Maiden Scurry, 5 furlongs.
Woodfiold... 8 9 Sle’pingßeauty7 10 Faro ... 8 7 Scotch Lassie 7 10 Yaskmak ... 8 3 Maura ... 7 10 First F00t... 8 0 Guillioßa ... 7 10 Casino ... 712 Lady Osma 710 Woodfield has not proved too good over the shorter distances, and on that account lam inclined to favor Faro’s chanoo. Of tho others Sleeping Beauty and Yashmak should bo safest to follow. Faro 1 Sleeping Beauty 2 Woodfield 3 Waikanae Handicap. Soultina ... 810 Vivacity ... 7 10 Hinetaupariki 8 3 NanceO’Neill 7 9 Tutungarehu 7 11 Argyll ... 6 11 Morpeth ... 7 10 For this event I select tho placed horses as follows — |
Souitina 1 Hinetaupariki ...' ... 2 Vivacity 3 Farowell Handicap, 6 furlongs. Taura ... 9 2 Craftsman... 6 10 A.B.N. ... 8 4 Hiki ... 6 10 Oracle ... 8 4 Tyrone ... 610 Souitina ... . 8 3 The Miner... 0 7 Otaio ... ' I' o Wilson" ... o 7 Ontario ... 7 5 Guillietta ... 6 7 This evont will depend a great deal upon previous running, but I will make the following venture — Hiki 1 Oracle 2 Craftsman 3
