D’ARC’S PAHTOMIME AND MARIONETTE COMPANY.
D’Arc’s Pantomime Company wilt make their first appearance in Gisborne, in the Academy of Music, on 'Tuesday evening, when there will be produced the gorgeous Oriental pantomime “ Bluebeard.”' Speaking oi the performance a Southern exchange says : “ O’Arc’s pantomime and marionette show came as a novelty, and there was a capital audience ‘at the Theatre Royal to make its acquaintance for tho first time. It is safe to say that the Company will need no letter of recommendation • when next they alight in this part of the globe. The drolleries cf the animated puppets kept the house bubbling over with merriment. The more youthful, less constrained section laughing until tlicir sides must have ached. The marionettes were ,so cleverly manipulated that at times it was difficult to realise that they were no more than dumb, inarticulate automata. The Transformation Scenes formed a grand finale to an excellent entertainment. The ■scenes were gorgeous in- their fairylike' splendour, ’ and quite astonished the audience. This portion of the programme was as good as anything of the kind to be seen in the Old .Country, and reflects the highest credit on the management. There will be a change oi programme each evening, and on Thursday afternoon a special illuminated matinee will be held, when speial tariff will he arranged for schools and families.
