TWO-UP SCHOOL.

LARGE NUMBER OF ARRESTS.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. About ten o’clock on Saturday night detectives and police raided an alleged two-up school in a Marion stroot building, in which gambling was supposed to bavo been carried on. It was known as tho Olympia Club, and was ostensibly used as a school of physical culture and boxing, a pugilist named Sturgeon being ono of the instructors. For some time past, tho place had been under suspicion, but an elaborate system of alarms bad been fitted up, and tho officers of the law had groat difficulty in bringing a raid to a successful issue. Two men, who had been acting for the police, were stationed inside on the pretence of being gamesters, and materially assisted in tho arrest. The front door was rushed by Inspector Ellison oud Chief Detective McGrath as a player was lot out, and the inner guard was secured before he could givo the alarm. Tho second barricade was openod by a confederate, and the rest was easy. Altogether 35 men were arrested. Tho manager named William Henry Eager, alias Richard Oxonham, is charged with keeping a common gaming houso, and tho others with being found without lawful excuse on premises used for gaming. The accused are principally laborers, clerks, and theatrical men.
