MOTU NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Mr T. McGregor is pushing on with the erection of his dairy factory, but owing to scarcity of carpenters his progress is somewhat retarded. Tho engine shed is already erected, and the bricks are being burnt. Ho has also purchased from tho Crown a block of good land, adjoining the Gisborne-Opotiki road, about four miles from the township, the area is 1700 acres. Mr T. Tyreman, of Motu, has handed in a donation of a guinea towards the. erection of| Telephone line. Mr Elliott has also promised a donation. The funds are short, and donations will be thankfully received.
The Roads Department seem to ignore the importance of Motu, inasmuch as little or no work is being done, while several thousand pounds could be spent to a great advantage in opening up new roads. It is to be hoped that when the new votes aro available Motu will have its share. That it richly deserves such is beyond question. I rogret to hear that Mrs Bright, of Karaka, is compelled to seek medical advice, and for this purpose she leaves immediately for Auckland, her sister, Miss M. Hansen, accompanying her. By lust mail Mr A. Hickford received advice from Feilding (Manawatu) that Mr F. Phillips, of that town, has purchased Mr Bullen’s valuable property at Motu. Mr Hickford has received instructions to let a bushfelling contract for Mr Phillips, so it will bo seen that tho gentleman does not intond to let the grass grow under his feet. ,-H
