O’ARC’S PAHTDMIME AND MARIOHETTE COMPANY.
From press notices which we have read cf this company in Indian, China, English and Australian papers we have grounds for leading our readers to expect something more than the average performance of strolling thespians in New Zealand. D’Arc’s company have a worldwide reputation, and they have brought their novel entertainment to a state of perfection. On Tuesday evening the 27th (opening night) the programme will consist ,of the marvellous “ Fantoccino,” in their unique entertainment, the grotesque movements of “ Fan-Farinane, the’ Inebriated Pierrot on Stilts,” by Mons. Rosewood,'’ the chair equilibrist, and the “ Komical Eures,” and the clever performance of “Leotard” the pole performer, combined with the more mysterious movements of “ The Compound Turks,” from whosh body puppet after pnppet is detached and set dancing in mirth-provoking fashion, all help to mystify, arnuße, and delight the audience. The Oriental pantomime “Blue Beard,” specially localised and rewritten for D'Arc’s company by Mr Wilton Gonsalves, comes next in order, The old Ghoul is vanquished in good style, which age is quite unable to wither or custom stale, and the harlequinade which comes after the pantomime affords opportunities for several local gags. The transformation scenes, a “ Midsummer Night’s Dream,” or the Home of the Sea Nymphs and Silver Swans,” which is a .marvel of of splendor and loveliness, brings the entertainment to a close. There will be a change of programme each evening, and on Thursday afternoon at 2.30 a grand special illuminated matinee will be held,
