These and several similar are the questions that were seriously asked by au examination board (an udmiral and four captains) of 375 youths who went up for nominations in “ the British Na-avy." Anti the British public have the audacity to create a noise about the examiners.

POVERTY BAY AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY. ANNUAL SHOW. rjHUESDAY AND OCTOBER 27th AND 28th. PROGRAMME. FIRST DAY-TUESDAY—October 27. Judging (commencing each day at 10 a.m.) will be in the following order : Cattle—Nos. 43 to 54 (Shorthorn Purebred Classes). Sheep—Classes Nos. 72 to 106 (being all except Fat Classes). Horses—Classes No. 1,11 to 19 (Draughts, Stud, and Young Stock). And those competing in the following Classes, which will be judged in the order named, commencing at 1 p.m.:— Class 41—Pony Jumping. Class 172—Driving Competition. Class 173—Driving Competition (Tandem). Class 40—Hunters. Class 42—Handicap Trot. ' Class 42a—High Jump. Class 42b—Wire Jump. LUNCHEON AT 12 NOON. SECOND DAY WEDNESDAY— October 28. Cattle —Grade Shorthorn, Angus, Ayrshire, Alderney, Jersey, Dairy Classes, and Fat Classes. N.B.—Cows competing for Milking Tests (Classes 67 and 68) must be on the ground by 4 pm. on the First Day. (Cows must be milked night and morning by same man).
Sheep—Classes 107 to 112 (inclusive), Fat Glasses. Pigs, Produce, Poultry, and Dogs (all Classes). HORSES. SADDLE CLASS RING. at 10 a.m. Class 20 —Weight-ca rying Haoks. Claes 21—L'ght-weight Hacks. Class 23—Walking Hacks. Class 24—Weight-carrying Cobs, 14.2 to 15 hands Class 25 —Ponies over 13 and under 14 hands. Class 26 —Ponies, 14 and under 14.2. Class 27—Troop Horses. Class 28 —Ponies, 13 hands or under. HARNESS CLASS RING. < :;: Starting at 10 a.m. Class 29—Single Buggy Horse, over 14 and under 14.3. Class 32 —Pair Buggy Ponies, under 14.2. Class 35—Harness Ponies, 14 hands or under. Class 33 -Single Buggy Horse, over 15.1. Class 31—Pair Buggy Horsos, over 14.2 and under 15.1. * These two classes prooeed simultaneously. LUNCHEON AT 12 NOON. 1 p.m. Girls’ and Boys’ Riding Competitions. Starting at 1.30 p.m. Ladies’ Hacks. Class 34—Pair Buggy Horsos, over 15.1.
