(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Gazette contains an announcement showing that the War Offico scale of pensions for officers and soldiers wounded in action and widows of those who were killed or died of disease remains unaltered. The Government commercial agent at Capetown reports that recent heavy arrivals of oats from New Zealand caused the market to weaken. The Oorreyanna turned out some of her cargo in very bad order. Most of the bad oats in the shipment were of the C grade, and seem to have got heatod in transit. First-class quaiity of buttor on spot i 3 very scarce, though there is plenty of second-class bo- . ing offered. Cheese is firm, wholesalers asking up to 9Ad for New Zealand. For poultry, the demand is quiet, prices remaining at 4s 6d to 4s 9d tor fowls and 6s for ducks. A large gathering of members of both Houses, including six Ministers, took place in Bellamy’s this morning. Captain Crawshaw and Mr Burt, chief engineer of the Mapourika, were the recipients of presentations from the Parliamentary party who took part in the recent excursion to the South Sea Islands. Captain Crawshaw received an illuminated address and gold sovereign case. The Premier presided, and spoke in appreciation of the many services of both officers, whose healths were enthusiastically toasted. Mr Mills proposed the toast of the Union Company, which was responded to by Mr Kennedy, the Wellington manager. Two fires occurred at Newtown early this morning. The shop and dwelling of H. and G. Brooker was damaged by fire and water. The building was insured for £4OO in the New Zealand office and the contents for £350 in the Guardian office. The second fire resulted in the destruction of a five-roomed cottage, owned by J. Coy and occupied by Sergt.-Major Kioms. The contents were insured in the Liverpool, London and Globe for £200., Tfie insurance on the house is not known.
