London, Oct. 16.
The Times’ Pekin correspondent reports that on the occasion of tho British military ball on Tuesday an attempt was made to explode a magazine containing in an exposed position explosives and ammunition for the defence of tho Legation. The breach block sights of a 4.7 gun were simultaneously stolen, but have since been recovered. In the native city wires were laid to connect the battery, but for some reason were not connected ; otherwise the consequences would have been disastrous.
