POVERTY BAY ROWING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The nineteenth annual meeting of the above Club was held in the Wesley Schoolroom last evening, there being a large attendance of members, hlr Arch. Kirk, captain, occupied the chair.
ANNUAL REPORT.
The Hon Secretary (Mr A’. W. Kirk) presented the annual report, as follows:—“Your Committee have much, pleasure in presenting their nineteenth annual report, and hope it will be considered satisfactory. The Club has made considerable progress during the year, both in membership. and funds, and it; is to he hoped the coming season will prove as successful as the past. “ The receipts during the year amounted to £54 18s Id, and the expenditure £46 9s, which left a balance of £S 7s Id. This amount has been devoted to reducing the overdraft, which now stands 'at £47 16s 9d.
“ Several series of races eventuated dur ng the year for prizes kindly donated, and the results were as follows :—First four-oar competition (for which no prize was given) was won by A. Williams (str), Russell (3), V. Somervell (2), F. Clarke (bow). For the prize donated by Mr Ellerbeck, in a four-oar race, R. Donkin (str), W. Parker (3), K. McLeod (2), M. McLeod (bow) proved successful. In a double-scull competition, R. Donkins and J. Smith were the winners of Mr Cox's trophies. F. ; Clarke and C. Hepburn were the victors in a double-scull competition for medals, for which an entrance fee was made. For Mr Innes’s trophies,, a four-oar series, I-I. Taylor (Str), V. Somervell (3), M. McLeod (2),- J. Roderick (bow) scored a victory, while the prize donated by Mr C. Morse for doublesculls was won by. F, Clark and J. Smith.
“ The thanks of the Club are duo to those who so kindly donated prizes and made other donations, thus stimulating the members and giving the Club active support. In this connection, we should like to mention Messrs C. Nicholson, E. R. Murphy, A. Dewing. C. Morse, J. I lines, B. Cox* J, Ellterbcck, 'and R. Jones. “ At Easter, the annual fixtures with the Gisborne and ‘the Union Rowing Clubs took place, and wj have to chronicle victories to the Club in every event. The Union Club was unable to send a senior crew—a fact greatly to he regretted. Both our senior and junior crewp defeated the Gisborne crews pieted against them, and our junior crew was also successful against the Union juniors. Our seniors were : R. Donkins (str), 11. Taylor (3), M. McLeod (2), R. McLeod (how), while our juniors were J. W. Smith (str), A. J. Pool (3), A. Pritchard (2), A. W. Kirk (bow)., •“ During the year the pleasureboats were disposed of by the Committee to advantage. “ The annual picnic held by the
Club on New, Year’s Day at the Ormond Quarry w. as a great success, as was also Hie social held on New Year’s night. The annual social
•held at Easter was one of the most
successful functions held by the Club for some considerable time. This was due to the ladies, who worked assiduously for these functions, and the Club recognises its indebtedness to them for their willing assistance. Amongst other ladies, the Committee wish especially to thank Misses McGrath (2), J. McDowell, Morell (2), Stafford, File, Hall, Tills, and Sccats. Tho property of the Club is in first-class order, and, having been overhauled during the winter, is now ready for tiie coming season. “ The relations of the Club with the Gisborne -and Union (Napier" Clubs have in the past been of a most harmonious nature, and it is •to te hoped -that, the good feeling now existing will continue, and be an instrument for good in the promoting of the healthy pastime of rowing in this district and in Hawke’s Bay.” The balance-sheet was also presented, and on the proposition of Mr J. Webb, seconded by Mr F._ Clark, tlie report and balance-sheet were adopted.
ROWING ASSOCIATION.
A circular was received from the newly-formed Hawke’s Bay Amateur Rowing Association, ( setting forth their objects, which were.to further the interests of amateur rowing in Hawke’s Bay and surrounding districts, which includes Poverty Bay, by encouraging inter-club contests under the control of the Association After favorable discussion, it was decided to join the Association, cud Messrs A- 1-lillpon and T. Morgan were appointed delegates to represent the Club on the Association. ELECTION OF. OFFICERS.;

Kirk ; treasurer, Mr W. Fraser ; assistant secretary, Mr F. Fox ; auditors, Messrs J. Webb, A- J. Pool, and J. Rosie; delegate to N.JS'. Rowing Association, Dr. Pollen/ committee, Messrs J. Webb, J. Johnston, F. Clark, C.; Kirk, F. Fox, and V. Somervell.; NEW MEMBERS.’
