THE GISBORNE SEASON. The world-famed comedian, John F. Sheridan, who.is to visit here for a three nights’ season, commencing on Monday next, is supported by a most brilliant combination of musical artists, consisting of twenty-six people, inclnding the midget oomediaD, “ Little Gulliver,” who is said to be a giant in fun but a midgetin stature. An excellent ballet of nine lady dancers also are numbered amongst the company and will be seen in bewitching ballets dnrthe season. . “ The Lady Slavey,” which is the opening production, is an exceedingly bright and comical operatical comedy, and gives the popular actor ample soope to display his undoubted versatility, pourtraying, as he does, no less than four distinct characters. His lightning change from tho garb of tho bailiff to that of tbe Scotchman is said to bo almost paralyzing by its celerity. The New Zoaland Herald, of Monday, &£ptembor.2lst, says : —“ Fun, music, and the danco.-, These aro the component parts of “ Tho Lady Slavey,” which the John F. Sheridan Company produced at His Majosty’s Theatre on Saturday night, before an audionco so largo as to well-nigh fill the house. On the playbills this piece is desoribed, aptly enough, as an up-to date eomio operatieal comedy. In it melody and merriment have entered into a jovial conspiracy to amuse ana entertain, and tho partnership is a successful one. “ The Lady Slavey ” made an instantancous hit, as there wore many reasons why it should,” On Tuesday night the up-to-date musical comedy “ A Trip to Chicago ” will be staged, in which Mr Sheridan appears as Johanna Murphy, the Irish mother-in-law. Tho season will be brought to a close on "Wednesday night by the production of an entirely new London success, “Naughty Nancy,” the Australian rights of which have recontly been purchased by Mr Sheridan. Tho company’s season in Auckland, Recording to latest advices, is tho most successful played tbnro for some considerable time.
