BAND CONTEST.
Per Press Association. Timaru, last night. Tho band contest was continued this morning, when tho solo competitions were taken. Tho results wore : Side drums : J. Osborne, Kaikorai, 111 points, 1; C. Cooper, Lyttelton, 110 points, 2. E flat basses : Signal, Wanganui, 180, 1; C. Coloman, Lyttelton, 177, 2; A. Clelland, Ouinaru, 163, 3. Later.—Tho band oontost to-day was devoted to solos. The results to this evening are as follows : E. flat horns : 8. Mellor (a young lad) Timaru, 186 ; H. Davis, Kaikorai, 169 ; C. Forrost, Wanganui, 169 ; G. Blythe, Wanganui, 153, and Whelan, Dunedin Navals, 153 ; G. Jenson, Wanganui, 152 ; W. Devming, Woolston, 138 ; F. Hawkey, Timaru, 135 ; L. Jacobs, Woolston, 134 ; T. L. Shollock, Lyttelton, 184 ; Burnip, Lyttelton, 122. 8.8. flat bass : C. Goallop, Woolston, 182; T. Macnatty, Timaru, 174 ; R. Chisholm, Kaikorai, 165 ; Hoagor, Timaru, 150 ; and Davie, Kaikorai, 133 ; T. Macdonald, Woolston, 128. In the cornet solos this oveniug 18 competitors aro competing, but the competition will not bo concluded until a late hour. ’
