Debtor in his statement says “ I came to Gisborne about two years ago. Previous to this I had been for 11 years in the employ of the Opera House Company, in Auckland. After my arrival in Gisborne I was employed by Messrs Haisman and Sons, builders, os a journeyman carpenter, for about three months. I then left their employ and entered into partnership with Mr B. McGillivray under the style of > McConnoohie and McGillivray ’ as builders and contractors. Tho firm started with no capital, nor did wo borrow any. The parnership lasted about 18 months, during which time several contracts were carried out, but owing to the contracts being taken at too low a price we made practically nothing at them. In August last, through the aid of a friend, I made an offer to my Gisborne creditors of 10s in the £, but it was not accepted. I attribute my bankruptcy to keen competition in the building trado, and consequently being compelled to take contracts at too low a figure-and to tho pressure of creditors. I have no offer to make.”
