PARLIAMENTARY.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night. The Council met at 2.30. The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Bill was reported from Committee with slight amendments.
HOUSE OP REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30. After formal business the House went into Committee of Supply for further consideration of the Estimates. The first class taken -was that of the public and school buildings. Mr O’Meara moved a reduction of the vote by £1 as an indication that members of Parliament should be debarred from sitting on Education Boards. The House resumed at 7.30. After a lengthy discussion Mr O’Meara’s amendment to render members of Parliament ineligible for seats on Education Boards was negatived by 45 to 10, and the whole vote was passed unaltered. The Defence estimates were entered on at 10.40. In reply to questions, Mr Seddon said that he intended to still further to reduce the defence expenditure, without impairing the efficiency of the service.
