ENGLAND’S AWAKENING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Sopt. 29. Tho Times says that Great Britain is rapidly losiog her pre eminence as the world’s carrier. The foreign share of shipping trade in foreign ports is increasing at the rate of 12 million tons annually, while the British share diminishes from one-half to one-third. Tho foreign tonnage in British home ports is increasing thrice as fast as tho British, who retain predominance in the colonial trade, through some colonies treating British shipping unfairly as foreigners. The Times adds that any retaliation against foreign shipping necessitates the cordial continuous support of the colonies.
