Plumbers’ Union against Isaac Jackson and So*,.of having employed a hand at 'less than fha stipulated wage, was com;^3p r o r:U > 3et * by agreement, and counsel inti'thated to tho Court that tho rospondont’s breach had been an unwitting one. The Union had rosolved that tho case could bo mot by a fine of £3 10s, and the Court was asked to fix the amount as tho penalty. Tho President said tho Court would do so, but ho wished it to be understood that such an action was not to bo taken as a precedent. Tho Court objected to such an agreement being made as to penalties. Such a course might lead to oppression, and many objectionable results would follow if it were allowed to beoome Che practice.
