OBITUARY.

There was a very large funeral cortege yesterday afternoon, when the remains of the late Mrs DeOosta were interred at the Makaraka Cemetery. The demise of that much-res-pected lady was the first death that had occurred in Gisborne among members of the Jewish persuasion, and the burial rites were dispensed by Mr H. Lewie. The chief mourners were the esteemed sons of the deceased, Messrs M., D., A., and H. DeOosta, Messrs J 3., C., and E. Lewis, Messrs H. and A. Zachariah, and Mr Hymns. The cortege extended for a very long distance, and a great many people had also assembled at, the cemetery. Although visibly affected, Mr Lends in a clear voice read the service, in the Hebrew' language, and then giving the English translation. As a mark of respect for the memory of the deceased, and sympathy with the family, many floral tribntes were sent, and the many flags at half-mast and other tokens of respect and sympathy showed the deep sorrow for the family in their bereavement.
