FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND DEFEATS SOUTH CANTERBURY.

(Per Press Association.) Timaru, last night. The football match Auckland v. South Canterbury was played at Timaru yesterday under adverse conditions, rain falling almost all the time. The match was on ground very sloppy. The play, considering the condition of tho ground, was very fast, the Aucklanders handling tho greasy ball splendidly. The visiting; forwards proved too heavy for the local men, who had hard luck, throwing three good chances of scoring away by too hard kicking when near their opponents line. The game ended in a decided victory for Auckland by 10 to nil.
