RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

A GRAND RACE. By Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright Sydney, Sept. 17. Tho Herald says the battle for the Craven Plato was a great ono. Wakeful did not have a smooth passago along, and was beaten inside tho distance, but had Cruciform come on from the homo turn instead of waiting for the favorite it was more than probable she would have turned tho tables on Ibex. The race was run at a clipping pace all the way. The Telegraph says unfortunately Wakeful was tho victim of soino intorferenco aftor passing tho six furlongs post. It appearod that in attempting to improve hor position at that point she wa3 disappointed, and cropped back, and was never able to recover lost ground, so a suspicion may linger that she was not fairly beaten. Cruciform was giving Ibex perhaps two longths’ start whon tho last furlong was entered. When called upon at that point Wakeful could mako no impression, but Cruciform stuck to hor task with such I grim determination that she gradually I overhauled Ibex, and only failed by a short head.
