FALL FROM TRAIN. Per Press Association. Cbristchurob, last night. John Diffen fell off the platform of the train between Sumner and Christchurch this afternoon, and the wheels of three cars passed over his right leg. Amputation below the knoo was done ut tho hospital, and tho man is progressing favorably. A CAPTAIN SUSPENDED.

With reference to a question askod by Mr Taylor in tho Houso of Representatives this afternoon, Colonel Porter, commanding officer of the Canterbury district, suspended Captain Fisher yesterday for writing a letter to the press in reference to the patriotic funds, calling in question tho action of his superiors. Colonel Porter states tho letter is a breach of the volunteer and King’s regulations, and also says that Captain Fisher adopted a defiant attitude when remonstrated with, and he had no option hut to suspend him.
