EAST COAST NEWS.
TOKOMAKU BAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Tho Cup presented by Rev. 0. Fitzgerald to the Waiapu Rugby Union is on view in Mr 11. H. Fairlie’s window ; it is to be presented to the Tokomaru Club, the winuers, a meeting of the Rugby Union this month. Tokomaru only suffered one defeat out of six matches played this season, having scored 56 points against 2G. H. H. Fairlio scored 5 tries, T. Mulligan 3, Tamihana, A. Mataliihi, Alberts, and Halo 2 each, Earle, Rawhiti, H. Wait alio and Gerrard 1 each. Our enterprising settlor, Mr W. Oates, has just had acetyleuo gas put on at his residence, which is a great improvement, there are 10 lights in all; the plant, Sun Generator, was ordered from Sydney by Mr F. J. Shelton. Mrs McGavin returned home from Hawke’s Bay on Friday. The hotel has just been painted and renovated, and reflects great credit on Mr Ferry, the contractor. Much sympathy is expressed with Mr McNeil, of Tolago Bay, in his bereavement. The lambing season is now well advanced, and docking will start in a couple of weeks ; there appears to be a good crop of lambs. The Aotea landed a large general cargo on her way from Auckland last week.
