Thames, last night. M alacge representative gathering held yesterday, a formal commencement of the boring soheoie to test the deep level at the Thames was made. Representatives of l all local bodies were present, and there was a good gathering of the public. The ■diamond drill worked splendidly. After boring a short distance, a stoppage was made, and. congratulatory and hopeful !3peeohe‘s given, the opinion being expressed that marvellously rich deposits of -gold, secured from the lodes in the top levels may be met with at a depth, as had occurred in other districts, which had scoured a new lease of life and a new era of prosperity through {hese means.
