MATAWHERO SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Matawhero School Committee was held on Saturday evening, thero being present : Messrs M. G. Nasmith (chairman), 0. S. Bertram, T. O'Donnell, T. Hay, aud G. Brocklebank. The Headmaster’s report stated that the attendance for the past month bad boon fair, averaging about 92 out of a roil total of 118. There was sttll a great deal of sickness in the district, but there were perhaps a few who were absenting themselves in contravention of the Act. He had now to forward the names of the delinquonts to Napier. He stated that spouting and a new tank were required for his house, as every summer he ran short of water. —The Chairman explained that the names of absentees were forwarded to Napier in accordance with a resolution passed at the last meeting of the Education Board.—With regard to a new tank and spouting, the matter was deferred till, next meeting. The question of quarter money was again brought forward, and after Borne discussion it was unanimously resolved to abolish the system of quarterage, the parents to provide the children with the necessary material in future. >' It was resolved to procure a number of honor cards. The need of a copy of the Education Act was mentioned, and it was docided to ask the Education Board for a copy of the same. The Visiting Committee reported that the works authorised at last meeting had been attended to. The Chairman mentioned that a Bill was being introduced into Parliament to allow school committees to deposit their funds in the Post Office Savings Bank. The proposal would relieve the Committee of the bank charges, and at the same time would receive interest. He thought they should ask the support of Mr Carroll and the Education Board on the Bill.—The members agreed with the Chairman, and it was decided to adopt the suggestion. It was decided to appoint Mr Allan to one of the vacancies on the committee. Accounts amounting to £5 4s 2d were passed for payment. The matter of the concert to be held next Thursday was then gone into, an& final arrangements made.
