BOARDING A TRAIN.
MAN’S LEG SHATTERED. (Per Press Association.) Napier, last night. A serious accident occurred at the Hastings railway station this evening. As the up-country train was leaving the station at 5 o’clock a Native named George Robinson, of To Hauke, attempted to get on. He grasped the handrail of the last carriage, but in trying to jump on the footboard wus swung between the carriage aud tho guard's van. He retained his hold of the rail, or he would inevitably have been cut to pieces. As it was his right leg got under the wheel of the guatd’s van, and was badly shattered before the train was stopped. The man was brought into town, nnd taken to the Napier Hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the leg.
