TUI’ARO A. (From Our Own Correspondent.), The following playors represented the North team v. the South, played at Tokornaru on Saturday 22nd, and won by tho latter, 18 points to 3 :-J. Taylor, B. Watkins, E. Hieks, Wi Henry, E. R. Ludbrook, Metcalfe, D. Duff and D. Whakarawa. With the exception of the Gisborne match this one is the final for the year, and wo bopo to seo the same amount of enthusiasm displayed in regard to cricket. So fur good weather prevails for the lambing; it is thought this season will turn out tho most favorable of any other. Tho Farmers’ Union meeting has been I postponed until Saturday 29tb. I Mr Fry is having improvements made to his [hotel shortly. We shall look forward to a dance in the near future. A Maori named Wi Waipapa has been drowned in tho Waiapu river whilst crossI i n g. The body has not yet beon recovered. A largo tangi is expected, as deceased was a rangatira. It is with regrel I have to announce the death of Mr Dan Kawhia, who was always very popular, and had mado many friends both hero and wherevor he went.

TOKOMARU BAY. - (From Our Own Correspondent.) I There was a largo attendance on Saturday last to witness tho match, North v. South,- played at Tokomaru, which resuited in a victory for South by 18 to 8. | Mr J. Earle acted as referee, and gave every satisfaction. Mr K. S. Williams, the solo selector watched tho game with a view to picking the representative team to play Gisborne on Saturday. The game was fairly even in the first spell. Taylor scored first blood for North, but Beetham

I failed to convert; shortly after R. Murphy I scored for South, and Reynolds converted, the whistle sounding half-time with the score South 5, North 3. Iu resuming, South assumed the aggressive, and fine passing on the part of the South backs soon had the North in trouble; hero P. White snapped up tho oval, and putting in a brilliant run scored near tho posts. Reynolds addod the major points, South 10, North 8. Shortly after this RaDgi scored another for the black and whites, but Reynolds failed with tbe kick, South 13, North 3. From tho scrum at half-way Reynolds sent the ball out to M. Murphy, who, beating the opposing wing threequurtor aod full-back, Bcored between tho posts ; Reynolds landed his third goal, South 18, North 3. Shortly after this the whistle sounded timo.

For the winners Potae was very safo at full, while Reynolds, J. Pokaihau, aod M. Murphy were very good. Of the forwards P. White, Itawhiti, A. Matahiki and R. Murphy were tho best. For tho loosers Duff and Hicks were tho best of tho backs, and Beetham, J. N. Williams, and Wood of the forwards. Mr K. S. Williams has chosen tho following to represent the Waiapu Rugby Union next Saturdy sgainst Poverty Bay : T. Potae, full-back; J. Pokaihau, Rangi, and M. Murphy, threequarters; Reynolds, five-eighths ; Hieks, half; E. R. Murphy, and R. K Murphy, wings; H. Fairlie, J. Taylor, A. Matahika, F. Manuel, J. Hames, Beetham, and R. C. Murphy, forwards. The team is a fairly stroug one, but Gerrard, eentre threequarter, and P. Whim will bo greatly missed. Both were unable to obtain leave of absence.

NATIVE LAND MATTERSHis Honor Judge. Jones pays a visit to the East Coast next month, on Native Land Council business, and advantage Will he taken of his visit to hold a sitting of the Native Land Court at Port Awanui. As. owing to the Council work, only a limited time can be given to the Land Court work, the business taken in connection therewith will be restricted to uncontested cases, hut it is likely that the long-standing Waipiro township cases will be among those dealt with. The sitting of the Court will he held about Sept. 28th. Mr Brooking, who accompanies Judge Jones as interpreter and clerk, will remain for a time to deal with succession cases in his capacity as Sub-Commissioner.
