LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP,

The contest for the ladies’ golf championship of Now Zealand opened to-day. Tho weather was perfect, but the ground was somewhat heavy in consequence of tho recent rain, Tho results were as follows: — First round: Miss M. Richmond beat I Mrs Ogston 2 up 1 to play, Miss Campbell beat Miss Bowls 6 up 4 to play, Miss Harcourt beat Miss Torrence 7 up 5 to play, I Miss Fitzherbcrt beat Mrs Fergus 6 up 4 1 to play, Mrs Porry beat Miss Symes 7 up I 6 to play, Miss Gillies beat Miss F. BranI don 5 up 4 to play, Mrs Bloomfield boat I Miss L. Brandon 1 np, Mrs Pearco boat 1 Miss Scott 2 up, Mrs Collins beat Miss j Laing-Meason 8 up 7 to play, Mrs Turnbull boat Mrs Adams 8 up, Miss Richmond beat Miss Gorrio 1 up ; Mesdames Allan, Lees, Cleghorn, A. Duncan, and Sidwell
had byes. Second round: Mrs Perry boat Mrs Allen 9 up 7 to play, Miss Fitzherbert beat Miss Hareourt 8 up 7 to play, Miss Lewis beat Mrs Ogston 7 up 5 to play, Mrs A. Pearce beat Mrs Lees 6 up 5 to play, Mrs Collins beat Mrs Turnbull 4 up 2 to play, Mrs Bidwell beat Miss J. Richmond 3 up 3 to play, Mrs Cleghorn beat Mrs A. Duncan 3 np 2 to play. The third round will he played tomorrow.
