Per Press Association,/ WELLINGTON, last night, The House met at 2.30.
The Mines Committee reported, favorably on the sevoral petitions praying that the number of hours worked byf miners underground be reduced. : | A long discussion ensuod, in wb'ich the Hon. Mr McGowan, Ministor of Mines, said that if tho House fixed the hours of labor of miners, it would strike a serious blow at the Arbitration Court, which should be left to settle tho question of hours. Mr Seddon said he differed m>m his colleague on this point, bb he thought the maximum hours of miners should be fixed by statute. 1 'L' Mr Ell moved an amendment that the report bo referred back to the Committee. This was lost on tho voices. • The House resumed at 7.30. "
The whole of tho evening was occupied in discussing a motion that the report of tho Waste Lands Oommittoo on tho Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Bill do lie upon the table. Mr Harding moved that thb Bill-'be referred back to the Committeo/jpn the ground that tho Committee had riOt properly considered it. '
Mr Seddon said tho Bill was a short one, and there was no necessity for its reconsideration.
