ASSAULT CASE.

■MURDEROUS ATTACK ON A MARRIED WOMAN.

Per Press Association.

Dannevirke, last night. A serious case of assault occurred yesterday. A man named Edward Scarfe, residing here for some months, walked into Mrs French’s house, and knocked her down three times. The woman struggled desperately. Her upper lip was cut and clothing torn. It is stated that Scarfe threatened her life and endeavored to reach a knifo lying on the table. Her children alarmed the neighhors, who rushed in and secured the man. This morning he was charged with attempted murder, and remanded to Napier. Mrs French was unable to attend the Court. It is understood that accused had been persecuting her with his attentions for some years past.
