INDIGNATION MEETING AT DUNEDIN.

Dunedin, last night. The Garrison Hall was well filled this evening on the occasion of an indignation meeting convened by the' Council of Churches and the Temperance Reform Council. The Mayor presided. The speakers were Mr A. S. Adams, Rev. P. B. Eraser, and Messrs Tennet, Jago, and F. Graham. Tho following resolutions were passed (1) This meeting of electors of the City of Dunedin indignantly protests against the scandalous inaction of the Government in relation to the licensing polls and the enforcement of tho law ia Newtown, and declares that the Government is directly responsible for tho present intolerable condition of affairs, and calls upon the representatives of the city to do their utmost, irrespective of party considerations, to secure such amendments of the law as shall prevent a repetition of such disgraceful occurrences. (2) This meoting calls upon Parliament to pass an Act making the provisions of sections 12 and 33 of tho Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Act, 1895, apply to the licensing districts of Newtown and Bruce. A resolution was also carried that it is imperative legislation should bo passed to provide for the reforms asked for at the Alliance meeting, about (1) no poll being declared invalid unless it is shown the result does not express the will of the electors ; (2) a new poll when poll voided ; (3) repeal of sub-section 3 of section 4 of the 1895 Act; (4) making any officer committing or permitting a breach of the law in the conduct of a poll subject to penalty.
