GOVERNMENT CAUCUS.

PROGRAMME FOR THE SESSION LICENSING LEGISLATION TO BE INTRODUCED. Per Press Association. Wellington, last night. A meeting of the Government party was held this morning. The official report states that there were forty six members present. The members were invited to express tboir opinions freely on tho posl* tion and on the business which it was thought should be proceeded with. The result was that tho opinion was expressed that lands, licensing, preferential trade, banking, dentistry, and education legislation should have preference. The Regulation of Local Elections Amendment Bill is to be proceeded with as soon as the dobate on the Financial Statement is over. By this means the report states the present friotion will be removed, and it will bo impossible for anything to occur again like that which now obtains at Newtown or Bruce. The Electoral Act Amendment Bill will also bo proceeded with. This also will prevent the will of the people being defeated. Members realised that to carry out this programme the House would have to sit until Christmas, and the suggestion of a short adjournment at the beginning of November was favored.
