B. ,Todd, Presbyterian minisiier, for, many years in charge of St. Paul’s, Oajnaru, died this morning, aged 82 years. AN INTERESTING CASE. In the Supreme Court, a claim for damages and an injunction to restrain the Railway Department from taking gravel from the bed of the Or-eti river, as the excavation diverted the stream to plaintiff’s land and flooded it, the Crown’s contention was that the works were authorised by, statute, and that suppliant’s remedy, if any, .was by. claim for compensation;, Judgment, was given for suppliant for £IOO, and costs on, the lowest scale. VINICULTURE AT NAPIER. NAPIER, last night. Signor Bragato, th'e Government viticulturist, has inspected several, . sites in the district lor a State larm for viniculture, and will recommend that land be acquired either at Te Mpta (Havelock) or Clive Grange. There is a. probability, of the latter estate being purchased by, the Government for settlement purposes, in .which; ease a portion will be set aside for a farm.

HEALTH OFFICERS’ DISPUTE, In the civil suit, -Finch v. De Lisle (claim £2O, bonus for acting as district health officer of Hawke’s Bay, during defendane’s absence in England;, plaintiff was nonsuited. The defendant was also nonsuited on the counter-claim for a similar amount, alleged to have been improperly paid.
