r A3 meeting of representatives of 270 Lancashire co-operative societies passed a resolution aflirmingi their belief in freetrade and refusing to make old age pensions contingent upon a preferential tariff. The Chairman refused to put an amendment. A number of delegates declined to vote, onei describing the conference as a cut-and-dried Radical meeting, engineered by the Cobden Club.
