Christchurch, last night. The principal winning owners at tho C.J.C. Grand National Meeting are:—G. p. Donnelly £6OO, W. T. and \Y. C. Hallett £4OO, J. O’Driscoll £4OO, S. Brown £245, McManomin and. Davis £2OO, W. O’Sullivan £IBO, Sir G. Clifford £l7O, C. P. Murray-Aynsley £l5O, Ellis Bros. £l4O, F. Watson £l2O, T. Godfrey £l2O, E. J. Watt £lO5, J. Jeffs £IOO, B. W. Paterson £IOO, and other amounts, making a total of £6970. Mr Haselden, S.M., gave judgment today in a case in which a well-known settler, J. B. Thacker sued Pitoaithley and Co. for £25 damages, because defendants, who own the steamer John Anderson, put baok to Lyttelton, and compelled Thacker to go ashore, because Thacker deolined to pay'a faro of 20s from Lyttelton to Okain’s Bay, the ordinary fare being 5s ; but the owners of the ship having instructed the captain to raise the fare for persons using the John Anderson aB a convenience and sending cargo by other steamers The Court held that defendants acted illegally and in a high-handed, arbitrary manner, and gave judgment for tho full amount yrith costs.
