FATAL ACCIDENT.

(Per Press Association.) Hawera, last night. A shocking accident, which ended fatally, occurred at the Hawera bacon factory. The manager, Mr Goodson, a son of Mr Goodson, of Auckland, waß about to show some visitors the working of the plant, including a lift designed by himself, and mounted on a shaft for tho purpose of fixing the belting. The motive power was on at the time, and a setscrew in its revolution caught the leg of Goodson’s trousers and carried him round at the rate of 140 revolutions to the minute. When the turbine was stopped and the body cut down it was found that GoodBon’s left arm was broken and his leg | smashed to pulp. The latter was amputated, but Goodson died from the shock he had sustained.
