ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. A laborer named Harry Thornton cut hi 3 throat at Papakura yesterday afternoon, but failed to take his life. It appears that Thornton has been despondent over private affairs, and yesterday he went to Papakura to get some work, and while there he seems to have been seized with a desire to kill himself. The wound is not regarded as serious. Thornton is a single man, and is not known to have any relations in the colony.

What is to become of man ? The advantage of woman seems to be maintained all along the line. The Cambridge Borough Council lately advertised for a subordinate clerk. There were ninety male, applicants and one female, and the woman was appointed by a bare majority of thg Council.
