ADDINGTON MARKET

A SPIRITED DEMAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. There were smaller entries than usual at the Addington market to-day, the recent bad weather having interfered with the fowarding of stock. Fat cattle: 1536 head came forward, the bulk being of superior quality, and some of the lines were particularly prime. There was a spirited demand, and the price of beef ruled from 29s to 32s 6d per 1001 b, while in a few instances lighter animals of high-class quality realised up to 34s and 35s per 1001 b. Steors sold from £8 7s 6d to £lB 10s, cows £9 10s to £l2 10s, heifers £9 17s 6d to £ll 15a.

Fat sheep : There was a good entry and a spirited demand for all classes. Practically the whole of the ewes offered were taken by the butchers at an advance on recent rates, and for wethers the export buyers had to face a vory firm market. Prime wethers made from 23s 6d to 273 3d; lighter, 17s 6d to 22s 3d; merino, freezing, 17s to 19s 6d; lighter, 12s 3d to 16s 6d; best butchers' ewes, 17s 5d to 23s 6d; medium, 12s 5d to 17s 3d; wethers and ewes, 16s to 24s 7d. Fat lambs : There was a very small entry, and they met with a keen demand at a slight increase on last week’s prices. Freezers sold from 12s 6d to 17s 3d, tegs 17s 6d to 18s 9d.

Pigs : There was a good yarding, and the demand was slightly easier than in the previous week. Baconers realised from 40s to 655, equal to 4fd per lb ; porkere, 32s to 39s 6d, equal to sfd; choppers, £3 10s to £4 15s.
