SPORTING.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night.
Riccarton was white with frost this morning. Training operations were delayed. A largo number of horses were in attendanoe, but very little fast work was done. Ragabash beat Windwhistle over a mile in 1.51. Ordnance easily defeated Chain Guard over six furlongs. Useful work was done by Nell Gwynne, Huku, Stepdaneer, Firebrand, Narcissus, Playfair, Catherine Gordon, Hypnotist, Dragoon, Wonderful, Victor 11., Scottish Minstrel, Sophism, Secret Society, Leonora, Croupier, Slow Tom, Pipi, Bill Perkins, Treadmill, To morrow, Glenladale, Omarriprian, Bombardo, Lolah, Wet Blanket, Oyclaß Parva, Comfort, Tradewind, Goldspur, Straybird, Scylla, Pallas, Benzoin, Antigone, Great Gun, and a number of others. Ayrdale and KowUete jumped half a dozen hurdles, but neither pleased. Victory and Hurricane jumped the hurdles and sod wall, both going well. Reliance was seen to better advantage than Promoter over a couple of rounds of hurdles. The best exhibition of the morning was between Haydn and Sultana. They jumped eight fences in splendid style. Haydn never looked better than just now.
Nor’-West was scratched at 12.35 for all engagements at the Grand National Meeting.
