BURGLAR CAPTURED,

At the Police Court James Wilson, a middle-aged man, was charged with burglariously ontoring tho premises of Mark Phillips, a storekeeper at Lucas Creek, and stealing a quantity of food aud a rug. The prosecutor deposed that ho heard the cash box moved on the bedroom floor during the night and searched the house with a gun. Wilson sprang at him in the dining room. Witness felled him with a blow from the gun. A struggle followed. Mrs Phillips brought a revolver and secured assistance. Wilson then submitted. Ho was tied with rope. He afterwards told a constable he would have been better prepared had he anticipated such rough treatment. He pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. A SAD AFEAIR.
At Otau, Wairoa South, Charles, the 11-year-old son of Mr J. Murtagh, was shot dead whilst he and his brother were pigeon shooting. A cartridge missed fire and unfortunately was not taken out of the gun, which, striking the ground, caused it to explode. Charles had the back of hiß head blown off. At the inquest a verdict of accidentally shot was returned.
