DARING ROBBERY.

MoVEIGIFS HOTEL BROKEN. INTO. PERMANENT LADDERS OFFER TEMPTATION TO THIEVES. Per Press Association., AUCKLAND, last night. A daring robbery was committed at, McVeigh’s Swan Hotel, when a cheque valued at £3, £2 10s in gold, anil bs in silver was stolen, from one of the pockets of Mr McVeigh's i-rousers, which were hung near the corner of his bed. Footprints near the fire-escape indicated mat the tliief had worn sand-shoes.

Mr McVeigh has a strong complaint to make concerning tne. permanent ladders with which hotels are now provided. He states that they are temptations to thieves, and so long as they are in use publicans’ property is in jeopardy. Folding ladders give more satisfaction.
