The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent General, dated London, July 25:—Mutton market rising. The average price to-day of Canterbury brands is 3§d per lb, Dunedin, Southland, aod Wellington Meat Export Company’s brands 3ifd, other North Island brands 3|d, ewes Sfd, River Plate 3id. ,The lamb market is slightly weaker and with less demand. The average price to-day of Canterbury brands is 5-Jd, other brands s|d. The beef market is overstocked and depressed —the average price to-day of hindquarters New Zealand beef is 4-Id, fores 2£d. There is no alteration in the butter market. Transactions m cheese are very, limited. Prices are irregular. The average price of finest New 'Zealand cheese to-day is 52s per cwt. The hemp market is ■quiet, but steady. The price of ■good fair Wellington grade, on spot, to-day is £3l 10s. August to September shipments, £3O 40s ;Octo|bcr to December shipments, £29 10s to £3O. The cocksfoot market is very fiat. The average price to-day of bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 bto the bushel, on spot, is 46s per cwt.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. report the following cable from their London office . _jii Wool sales closed firm without further ohango. Greasy good Merino wools, prices are on a par with last series closing rates, and scourod Merino wools the better classes scarcely maintained. Medium and inferior Merino wools, prices are on the average at par to 5 por cent, lower than closin'" rates of last series. Greasy crossbred fine light free descriptions very firm. Greasy crossbred wools, medium qualities and coarse descriptions—prices are higher by 7| to 10 per cent. Slipes and scoured crossbred wools are unchanged. Total available, including old stocks, Colonial, Australasian, and Cape 163,000 bales. Out of tho net quantity available for salo some 80 000 bales have been sold for Home consumption, 63,000 bales for the Continent, 5000 for America, leaving 15,000 bales to be carried forward to next series.”
